EMDR Therapy in Nevada & Utah

You don’t have to keep reliving something for it to still be affecting you.

EMDR ( Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) is a trauma therapy designed to help the brain process experiences that still feel unresolved.

It can be helpful when you understand what happened intellectually, but your emotions, body, or nervous system continue reacting as though the threat is still happening.

What exactly is EMDR?

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy originally developed for trauma and PTSD. Rather than focusing only on changing how you think about an experience, EMDR works with memories, emotions, beliefs, and body sensations that can remain connected to it.

During EMDR processing, we use bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, alternating sounds, or tapping, while working with a specific memory or experience.

The goal is not to erase what happened or convince you that it wasn’t a big deal. It’s to help your brain process the experience so it doesn’t continue to feel like its happening in the present.

And no, you don’t have to repeatedly tell the entire story in excruciating detail for EMDR to work.

What can EMDR Help with?

Trauma & PTSD

Single-event trauma as well as repeated or complex experiences.

Medical Trauma

Distressing medical experiences, procedures, diagnosis, or healthcare interactions.

Anxiety & Specific Fears

Experiences or triggers that continue to create strong fear or anxiety responses.

Interpersonal Trauma

Experiences involving relationships, betrayal, abuse, rejection, or loss of trust.

Distressing Life Experiences
Not every experience has to fit neatly into a definition of trauma to continue affecting you.

Negative Beliefs About Yourself
Beliefs such as I’m not safe, I’m powerless, I’m not goo enough, or I can’t trust myself that become connected to past experiences.

What working with me actually looks like

We don’t start with “Okay, tell me your worst memory”

Before we begin processing anything, we spend time understanding what you’re experiencing, identifying what we may want to work on, and making sure you have enough preparation and support to tolerate the work.

EMDR is not a race to get to the processing phase

When you’re ready, we’ll identify specific experiences, beliefs, emotions, or triggers to work with and use EMDR processing at a pace that makes sense for you. Throughout the process, we’ll continue checking what’s changing, what still feels stuck, and what your nervous system needs.

Some people come to me specifically wanting EMDR. For others, EMDR becomes one part of therapy alongside practical coping skills, nervous system regulation, cognitive and behavioral strategies, mindfulness, and parts-informed work.

You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what needs to be processed. Figuring that out is part of the work.

Curios whether EMDR might be a good fit?

You don’t have to decide whether EMDR is the “right” therapy before contacting me. We can talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’ve tried before, and whether EMDR, or another approach, makes sense for what you’re experiencing.

I offer online EMDR therapy for adults throughout Nevada and Utah.
